Every July the Comox Valley Exhibition grounds on the outskirts of Courtenay goes through the most amazing transformation. The tree lined meadows, riverside pathways and wooden clad infrastructure become home to an enthusiastic community of revelers. Music, dancing, workshops, eating, drinking and shopping draw people from all over Canada and the USA. Vancouver Island Musicfest has become a destination music festival and there is no question people love it. With quality acts year after year, and a sweet relaxed vibe that grooves just as much on sustainability, sanity, and smiles as on the world class music, VI Musicfest is a summer highlight for many. I am fortunate to be among the posse of professional photographers invited each year to document the magic of the weekend. These photos represent a day (weekend) in the life of a Musicfest media volunteer. Several hundred volunteers make this festival a huge success. This year I turned my camera on the hard working volunteers in addition to the general ambiance. I hope you enjoy the magic as I encountered it. FYI the last picture is a self-portrait.
Well Done Everyone! Another memorable event is in the bag.

It’s so cool to see Musicfest through another photographer’s perspective! The beer socks shot is awesome and I love your self-portrait. As I’ve said, Sharon, one of my highlights of the festival was the time I spent with you!
Awww You are so sweet Karen, Thanks for that. I find the people experience is what keeps bringing me back to Musicfest every year, that and the challenge of finding fresh images. I really had a people oriented experience this year for sure. It felt right to celebrate the individuals that make that festival such an amazing event. It occurs to me I don’t have a picture of you! Next time!
